Money Movement FAQs
How does FEDNOW compare to PAYPAL, ZELLE, APPLE PAY, ETC?
Unlike other payment apps that may hold your funds for a few days or charge extra fees for same-day transfers, FedNow payments are routed directly to your account in real-time. This means your money is available to you when you need it, without unnecessary delays or fees.
Do I need a new or separate APP to use?
No, you don’t need a separate app or login! FedNow payments are made directly between financial institutions, so there’s no need for intermediary apps like PayPal, Zelle, or Apple Pay.
How can I use FEDNOW or RTP?
Some common uses include direct deposit of paychecks, transfers from other financial institutions, and moving money from digital wallets and person-to-person apps. Check with the sender to see if they offer RTP or FedNow. Telcoe doesn’t charge a fee to use either network.
What's the difference between FEDNOW and RTP?
FedNow is operated by the Federal Reserve. The Real-Time Payments (RTP) network is operated by The Clearing House. Both networks allow financial institutions to move money instantly between businesses and people.
What's the difference between FEDNOW and RTP?
We can accept Real Time Payments and FedNow Payments to your checking, savings, and MMSA accounts. However, such payments cannot be applied directly to Telcoe loan products. Transmission of funds through RTP and FedNow are only available between accounts located in the US. This applies even if you are sending or receiving a payment on behalf of another person. All persons who send, receive, or benefit from an RTP or FedNow transaction must also reside in the US. Transfers of money you receive through RTP or FedNow will generally be available immediately upon receipt of the funds, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, funds received by Telcoe on or after 8:00 pm (Eastern Time) will not be available until the following Business Day for processing some items such as Automated Clearing House (ACH) debits and checks, but Optional Overdraft Protection Service fees will apply, as applicable.
↵Although Telcoe does not charge fees to receive, the sending bank could charge the sender a fee.
Is it safe to receive payments through FEDNOW and RTP?
Yes. The FedNow Service is operated by the Federal Reserve and built with security and reliability in mind. Transactions are encrypted and processed instantly.
Is FEDNOW the same as ACH?
No. While ACH are common ways to send money, they aren’t instant in the same way FedNow is. ACH transfers can take 1–3 business days, while FedNow delivers money in real time—within seconds.
